Firefighters have spent thousands of pounds rescuing children trapped or stuck in objects, it has emerged.

Earlier this week, London Fire Brigade (LFB) revealed it had spent £240,000 rescuing children who accidentally get locked in rooms or trapped in things since 2009.

On average, The Brigade deals with around five call-outs a day, including many in Waltham Forest.

Some examples provided by the LFB include a child having his leg stuck in a climbing frame in June 2013, a child's fingers being stuck in a wheelbarrow in Endlebury Ward in November 2010 and a child getting his head trapped in railings in Highams Park in May 2010.

Other examples in Chingford include a child getting their head stuck in a plastic chair in Hatch Lane ward in March 2010, and a child being stuck in a high chair in October 2010.

It costs the Brigade on average £290 to deal with each incident and has so far had to deal with 1,508 incidents alone this year including 500 children being locked inside toilets, and over 130 reports of kids being stuck in trees.
