A man is currently receiving treatment in hospital after being stabbed in Walthamstow.

The man, believed to be in his 20s, was attacked in Higham Hill Road at the junction with Gloucester Road at around 11pm on Thursday.

Emergency services including London's Air Ambulance (LAA) arrived at the scene and treated him for a stab wound.

He was then taken to hospital as a priority with a doctor on board from the LAA.

Police are yet to release details of the incident.

Labour councillor Tim Bennett-Goodman of Higham Hill ward is concerned public safety is at risk, especially as schools have now broken up.

He said: "There is almost a total lack of police presence in Higham Hill and it is very concerning. We're at our wit's end.

"The Mayor's new policing model is having a massive effect on our ward and we're being completely neglected.

"Extra resources are being given to wards with higher crime levels such as High Street at our expense.

"We rarely ever see a uniformed officer, we're simply not getting the cover and yet we have major drug issues and concerns with anti-social behaviour.

"It is escalating and becoming much more serious and this latest incident is just one example of too little, too late."

The Labour ward councillors are calling on Waltham Forest police to increase patrols of uniformed officers in the ward.
