Some of the biggest names in soul music and during the height of the 80s disco era will be headlining a two-day festival in August.

American super group Sister Sledge will headline the Chingford Big Weekender at Ridgeway Park in Old Church Road on August 9.

The two-day free music festival will also feature performances on the Saturday from R&B singer Alexander O'Neill and Gwen Dickey of the 1970 soul group Rose Royce.

The acts are set to perform world-famous tracks including 'We are Family' and 'Car Wash'.

Talented artists from Waltham Forest such as Walthamstow's 'soul diva' singer Tina T, and Chingford's acclaimed street dance group Celebro Dance will also take to the stage on August 9.

Family-orietated and children's activities will include a funfair, go karting, climbing walls, crazy golf and trampolines.

Council leader Chris Robbins said: "We’re encouraging everyone to come out and celebrate this year.

"If you enjoy music, there’s an amazing line up from big names to local talent, there’s something for everyone, so come down and see what takes your fancy."

An inflatable sports arena featuring table tennis, football, boxing, a bungee run and bouncy castles will be set up on the Sunday.
