The population of London is set to increase by 37 per cent to 11 million by 2050, according to a report commissioned by the Mayor of London.
The research into how the capital's infrastructure will deal with the rise found up to 1.3 trillion must be spent between 2016 and 2050.
It found 50,000 new homes and 600 schools will have to be built, with a 60 per cent increase in demand for Underground services.
Boris Johnson has announced he will set up London Infrastructure Delivery Board to address the issues, but has ruled out building on the green belt, insisting brownfield sites are available.
