A former private school teacher charged with sex offences against a child has been remanded in custody after breaching his bail conditions.

John Wunderle, who had resigned from his post at Bancroft’s School in High Road, Woodford Green, before the allegations came to light, is accused of two counts of both engaging in sexual activity with a child and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

The 34-year-old, of Greenwich Way in Waltham Abbey, was let out on bail after a preliminary court hearing but was spotted with a teenage girl in his car, in breach of the conditions of his release.

He was remanded in custody after appearing at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Saturday and is due to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Monday.

Heateacher of Bancroft's School, Mary Ireland, said: "As soon as the school was made aware of the allegations we followed our safeguarding policy and immediately notified the LADO and suspended the member of staff.

"We have continued to cooperate fully with the investigation and done all we can to support the family involved."
