A group of teachers who ended the school term with a charity cycle to France have raised more than £4,600 for Cancer Research UK.

Deputy headmaster Gareth Davies and seven other staff from Debden Park High School in Loughton completed the route in 47 hours and 5 minutes, beating their target time of 48 hours.

The so-called Debden Dynamos, aged between 25 and 40, set out after sports day at the Willingale Road school on July 18, and cycled 100 miles a day before arriving at their final destination in Paris.

Mr Davis said: "It was fantastic, a great experience. The team worked well together and we all helped eachother along.

"Over the 47 hours we experienced all kinds of weather from sun to rain to sun again and even thunder, but as a team we got through it.

"It was amazing to roll up into Paris knowing we had raised over £4000 thanks to all our great sponsers, we achieved enormous personal challanges and overall had a fantastic time."
