A road accident which caused long delays in the Chingford and Walthamstow area this morning has now been cleared.

The North Circular westbound at Walthamstow Avenue was blocked to all traffic following the three-vehicle collision shortly after 8.30am today.

Emergency services including London Fire Brigade were called to the scene near Costco's at the junction with Harbet Road at 8.45am.

A woman in the 60s and a woman in her 30s were treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to North Middlesex University Hospital.

A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service did not know what injuries were sustained or what the women's conditions were.

Traffic is easing along the route but nearby roads and interchanges including Hall Lane, New Road, Billet Roundabout and Charlie Browns Roundabout were heavily congested.

Two cars were towed away from the scene at around 10.30am and the road has since re-opened.
