A church in Walthamstow is hosting a fundraising event to help provide medical aid to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Canon Steven Saxby of Saint Barnabas Church in St Barnabas Road, Walthamstow, has organised the 'Gather for Gaza' event in conjunction with Palestinian Aser El Saqqa from Walthamstow.

Mr El Saqqa is the founder of Arts Canteen, an organization highlighting Arab artwork in the UK.

In the 1990s, he worked for the Palestinian Ministry of Culture before moving to London as a business analyst.

Their aim is to raise £5,000 for Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP), a charity with offices in Gaza City and helping to deliver health and medical care to those worst affected by conflict, occupation and displacement.

Entrance to the event requires a £10 minimum donation or through Mr El Saqqa's JustGiving page here

Already £800 has been raised through 22 online donations which is enough to pay for hygiene kits containing soap, bandages and antiseptic cream.

Canon Saxby, said: "We are honoured to be co-hosting this event at our church.

"The medical infrastructure of Gaza is in chaos and the suffering there is immense.

"I hope we will raise vital funds at this event to help aid the plight of innocent Palestinian civilians affected by the current crisis."

The music, poetry and spoken-word event will feature a stall by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign and freshly prepared food by The Orange Couch.

It will take place on Saturday from 6pm to 9pm at the St Barnabas Road church.

I note continuous articles by NATALIE GLANVILLE, all with a pro Hamas/Palestinian bias.

A professional reporter would be objective, neutral & show no bias.
She is failing to meet the minimum ethical requirements ito be expected from the Guardian.

How about an article making it clear Israel was responding to rocket attacks from Hamas, Israeli civilians had 15 seconds to reach a shelter when the sirens were heard. The mental trauma on Israeli kids will be with them for ever.

Many Palestinians were killed when hamas rockets fell short. In fact Hamas are responsible for all the carnage. They fired more rockets then fellthe Nazis fired during the war.

Ms Glanville - You must not let your prejudice get in the way of fair & honest reporting.

Exactly, why the bias from Rev Saxby and the reporter?

Objectivity is required here.

Dead right.

People are believing everything Hamas allows to be reported. What a waste of time if all they want to collect is £5,000. :-/ Hamas can't even buy another missile for that amount. There's plenty of medical supplies going in there anyway.

And that is not all. Why the outrage NOW when the persecution of Christians by Palestinian Moslems and Jihadists all over the Middle East had been going on for years? The reason is that it is JEWS defending themselves against Hamas terror, and some people cannot bear it! The truth will out; film and reports form journalists now leaving Gaza showing Hamas firing rockets from schools and hospitals, 160 Palestinian kids killed building the terror tunnels (see Journal of Palestinian Studies), Hamas killing Pal dissidents asking for peace, etc etc - lies about Israel on and on.

Nice work from the church and we should be proud of it. Don't listen to the trash about Muslims persecuting Christians. The fact is Muslims and Christians on the whole have a good relationship. It is clearly in the interest of some to divide and cause hatred between Muslims and Christians. ...the mainstream media being the worst offenders. By the way Israel doesn't want peace because peace would mean they cannot steal land from Palestinians, that is why they bomb children and smash the infrastructure of Gaza every once in a while.

Israel provides all medicine & humanatarian supplies. This was confirmed by the BBC yesterday. What they are not allowing throgh to Gaxa is buliding mareials, because these are used by Hamas terrorists to build
terror tunnels.

But sillymanny is correct on 1 point - Gaza is under siege - Yes, from Hamas. They are resposible for all the death & destruction. Israel has no territorial claim in Gaza-- It is Hamas who want to erradicate the Jewish community, in the same way that Isis is killing the christian community in Iraq.

In the meantime Hamas rockets fall short on Gaza - killing civilians.

D Trotter clearly does not watch the news before his eyes - the open destruction by Islam of the ancient Iraqi Christian and Palestinian Christians is going on right now. The only Christians in the Middle East that are safe are alive and flourishing in Israel where all have equal status before the law and all religious sites protected. Such is Trotter's anti-Semitism, he cannot even tell the truth that we can can all see on our TV's. But this par for the course with people like him. The Jews have lived constantly in Israel for 4,500 years - it belongs to us but we are willing to share IF there is genuine peace . The Pals will not sign up BECAUSE if they do they will never get their dream - to run the Jews into the sea.

They will have to abide by the two state solution before the world - simple really - so they sabotage all peace discussions by deliberately demanding from Israel things Israel can never accept ie all Pals to return to Israel (when the 'invisible ' 4 million Jews/descendants expelled from Arab nations cannot and do not want to go back to Arab lands (they would be insane, no?); control Jerusalem (built by King DAVID and where Jews have lived for 3000 years); not carry out the 5% land swap whereby both sides lose nothing?

So Trotter you carry on with the pointless demands and meanwhile Israel flourishes because most of the world sees they are right! Simple really.

Well said. Thats exactly what youre doing. Try doing some proper research before spouting so much uneducated rubbish. Theres been a border open all the time bringing in all supplies even when Israeli soldiers have been under fire. You wont hear that in the media as Hamas censor everything the media is allowed to report.

And youve gone down the usual sensationalist route of saying children are being bombed. They are not. The people there are sent lots of warnings by the IDF telling them when and where theyre going to bomb and to get out of the way. Hamas tell them to ignore the warnings and to stay where they are, so as much as the IDF take as much care as possible to hit their targets some civilians get killed which Hamas want to happen so people like you make it Israels fault and it works!!!

Its only all happening in one part anyway. In other parts everyone is getting on with their daily lives of walking around, shopping in their markets and driving around. All dressed in their sportswear.

Its only all happening in one part anyway. In other parts everyone is getting on with their daily lives of walking around, shopping in their markets and driving around. All dressed in their sportswear.
Yes, you are right, I just would like to know why the bias here?

By the way Israel doesn't want peace because peace would mean they cannot steal land from Palestinians, that is why they bomb children and smash the infrastructure of Gaza every once in a while.[/p]
Sadly you are correct. What a load of bile spewed above in response to someone (a Christian by the way) who wants to help dying children. Ferdy54 says " There's plenty of medical supplies going in there anyway" You made this up Ferdy. Just admit it. Gaza is under siege. Its all too easy to sit in your home and write crap . Think before you comment.[/p]
"Its all too easy to sit in your home and write crap" Well said. G Sladden says...

I am neither Jewish nor Israeli. Last week I sent a cheque to Magen David Adom (Israel’s medical emergency service). It’s a tiny, tiny attempt to redress the insane reporting of the conflict. It’s also my private, but very satisfying way, to stick two fingers up to the so called progressives who drape themselves in Palestinian flag and set up their stall wherever they can find someone who is prepared to listen. I’ll start to take these hypocrites seriously, when I see large scale demos on behalf of the Yazidis; the Chaldean Christians; the Syrian butchered by Bashar Assad in their thousands; the non-Arab populations of Darfur massacred by the Janjaweed. It is reported that in May 2014 alone, Boko Haram attacks in Nigeria have left at over 10,000 people dead and 8,000 people injured: where were the progressives demonstrating at the time? What is the Guardianistas’ view on the war in Donbass. There have been raging civil wars in the Central African Republic and in Mali for the last couple of years. Where do the progressive stand on all these conflicts with deep historical roots and devastating recent developments. Yet, when war breaks up between Israeli and Arabs, the whole world goes insane. And then they say that it has nothing to do with anti-Semitism, but with anti-Zionism…Do me a favour!
