Police are appealing for witnesses after a teenager was stabbed during a street robbery on Sunday.

At just after midday, the 19-year-old man was attacked in Carlton Road, Walthamstow, as he made his way to the shops in Higham Hill Road.

He was approached by a boy, believed to be 14 years-old, who then demanded he hand over his mobile phone.

The victim was then stabbed in the back with a knife and robbed of his mobile phone.

The attacker fled in the direction of Higham Hill Road, leaving the victim bleeding in the street.

Police were called to Carlton Road to reports of a robbery at 12.20pm and London Ambulance Service arrived at just after 1pm.

Paramedics treated the teenager at the scene for a single stab wound and took him to an east London hospital, from where he has since been discharged.

It is the second stabbing to happen in the Higham Hill area in the last two weeks.

Councillors and shop owners have raised concerns over a lack of policing.

Cllr Tim Bennett-Goodman said: "This underlines concerns we raised about school holidays and keeping our youth engaged.

"Sadly, this very much tallies with what we've been warning for some weeks now.

"In just two weeks, we've had two stabbings and a firearm being discharged.

"A regular foot patrol along Higham Hill and in Higham Hill Park, plus out-of-the-way areas like Ascham End, is essential if we are to keep a lid on crime and disorder, especially during the summer holidays."

A 20-year-old was stabbed in the lower back as he walked home from work at Co-op in Higham Hill Road at around 11pm on July 24.

He has since made a full recovering.

Modhiraj Sanghia, 42, of Banbury Road in Walthamstow, has been charged with wounding and possession of a bladed article.

Four days later on July 28, a 49-year-old woman reported shots being fired into the front window of her home in Sinnott Road, Walthamstow.

Trident Gang Command is investigating and no arrests have been made.

Police are asking that anyone who witnessed the stabbing on Sunday, or who has information in relation to it, to contact Waltham Forest CID on 101 quoting reference 4916496 or anonymously at crime stoppers on 0800 555111.
