A woman whose child has type 1 diabetes is backing a national campaign to improve support in schools for youngsters with the condition.

Fiona Faure, 48, of Abbotts Drive, Waltham Abbey, has been backing the Make the Grade campaign, which aims to raise awareness of a new law that states all schools in England are now legally required to provide support to children with medical conditions, for 10 years.

Over the years Fiona has worked with hospitals, healthcare professionals, schools and parents to address the needs of children living with the condition.

On June 30 this year, the mother-of-two won the Raise Your Voice Inspire Award at the charity’s national award ceremony in Westminster.

Fiona said: “As a parent of a child with Type 1 diabetes I know how difficult it can be to feel confident that the school is looking after your child properly.

“If children don’t get the care they need it can lead to serious problems with their health and it can also really affect their confidence and self-esteem, at a time when they are already vulnerable.

“I urge all schools in Waltham Abbey to fully implement the new rules as it can make a huge difference to a child’s life.”
