A Chinese student who had to learn English in order just two years ago to sit A-levels has secured offers from two leading universities.

Kaifang Zhou, from Harlow, studied Accounting and Maths at Epping Forest College in Borders Lane, Loughton, and has been offered places at London School of Economics and Imperial College to read Actuarial Science.

Miss Zhou, who came to England in March 2011 from China and spoke very little English, enrolled at another college in order to improve her English and obtain the necessary basic qualifications to take on A–Level study.

Students at the college achieved improved A-level results this year with the pass rate up from 90 per cent last year to 95.3 per cent this year.

There was also a 100 per cent pass rates in 26 subjects, compared to 23 last year.
