Fire crews were called to tackle a fire in an organic vegetable shop on Sunday.

Twenty-one firefighters and four engines responded to the incident in Wood Street, Walthamstow, at around 4pm.

At the time of the fire, the shop, which is believed to be a listed building, was empty.

Damage was caused to external timber cladding but crews managed to stop severe damage to the inside.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Excellent timing. Long-standing tenant moves out, vendor puts it up for let/sale with Strettons. And now a fire breaks out when the building is empty. Go figure eh!

The shop is made of wood which is like a tinder box and the organic veg and fruit was far overpriced for what it was. Cheaper to shop at the Hornbeam Cafe where they sell the allotment offerings. Also, you can buy tins of old paint for the odd DIY around the house. Fairtrade, is the future.
