Friends of a woman suffering from cancer have raised over £3100 to improve her quality of life.

Theresa Carr, 46, of Drayson Close in Waltham Abbey, was diagnosed with lung cancer last month and has since been told it has spread to her hips, knees and shoulder.

Friends of the mother-of-one, who is currently undergoing chemotherapy, held the event at The Sun Inn, Waltham Abbey on Sunday.

The day saw performances from Britains Got Talent semi-finalist, Micky Dumoulin, X-Factor contestant, Amy Mottram and Luciee Marie Closier from BBC One's, The Voice.

The 11 hour fundraiser attracted over 500 people and received £3,112.80 in donations which left Ms Carr ‘in tears’ over the support she had received.

Friend and organiser of the fundraiser, Teresa Cairns, 50, said: “It was a fantastic day and evening everyone really had a great time.

“We had a very emotional moment in evening when Micky Dumoulin sung ‘bring him home’ and dedicated it to Teresa, she sat in front of him and it ended up with us girls all sat with her crying our eyes out.”

Residents were also invited to join in with the giant tug of war as well as a variety of stalls, a bikini car wash and activities for youngsters.

The funds raised will go towards buying a new mattress and a hoist to help Teresa in and out of the bath.

Ms Carr said: “It was a fantastic day, I could not off wished for a better day, the sun was shining and so many people turned up.

“The money that was raised was such a shock, None of us expected it that much.

“I called it my Perfect Day."
