A former mayor of Redbridge and councillor of more than three decades has died at the age of 77. 

Graham Borrott died of a heart attack at King George Hospital on Saturday. 

The long-standing Conservative councillor represented Aldborough ward for twenty years until 1994, during which time he had a stint as mayor from 1987 to 1988 and served twice as deputy mayor in the mid 80s and early 90s. 

He stood down from the council in May 2010 at the age of 73, having served one more term in 2006 as councillor for Barkingside ward.  

Conversative group leader Paul Canal said Mr Borrott's service to the community and Redbridge was 'unparalleled'. 

Mr Borrott is survived by his wife Pat, three children David, Michael and Katherine, and six grandchildren. 

The funeral will take place on September 5 at St Peter's Church in Aldborough Road North, Ilford. 

His family has requested there not be any flowers sent, but than donations can be made instead to Redbridge Voluntary Care in Rutland Road, Wanstead.
