Police have a released a CCTV image of a distraction thief.

Suspect 155246 is wanted in connection with theft at Tesco superstore in High Road, Leyton, on June 3 at just after 4pm. 

The man pictured wearing a distincive Middle Eastern headdress used a distraction tactic to steal a 69 year-old man's bank card from the machine. 

According to police, he waved a piece of paper whilst standing close to the victim at the cashpoint and then the card vanished.  

Soon after the bank card was used by the thief at a hole-in-the-wall in Leyton to withdraw £90 cash before it was reported stolen. 

The CCTV has been released to the Guardian as part of a joint venture with the Metropolitan Police to identify potential perpetrators of unsolved crimes in the borough.
