A teenager had a knife held to his throat during a robbery.

Two men, believed to be aged 18 to 20, approached three 16-year-olds as they walked in Alderton Hall Lane in Loughton, close to the railway bridge at 10.40pm on Friday.

The boys were threatened with a baseball bat and one had a knife held to his throat as they were forced to hand over their belongings, including an Armani bag, a wallet and an iPhone.

The attackers ran off before driving away in a vehicle parked in Alderton Hall Lane.

One of the robbers was wearing a distinctive blue hooded top with white stitching around the pockets.

The other was dressed in black but both had their faces hidden under their hoods.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Stephen Baker said: "This incident understandably left these boys very distressed.

“I’m keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time. I’d also like to urge people to be vigilant, stick to main roads and avoid taking short cuts.”

Anyone with any information about this robbery is asked to call Dc Stephen Baker at Loughton CID on 101 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111

Guessing the robbers were caucasian since the Guardian makes no reference to the race of the men... Typical of the media these days.

Yes, they do not want to offend anyone by a) mentioning race or creed and b) obviously do not want to catch them as this will cost money. This is all lip service. Also remember how the police massage the figures so this will end up as 'not a crime' at some point and probably a teenage squabble.

A very serious incident that needs to be treated very urgently.

The police need to find these offenders and the law punish them.

Yes people need to take care but I find the comments of the investigating officer that this is a short cut that people should avoid as a complete misunderstanding of the geography of the local area.

Does he really expect parents from the Oakwood Hill estate walking to the Alderton School or the many residents from the Barfields area who use the recreation ground to use any other route.

No a much better response would be for the police to increase their patrols in this area and / or locate a mobile CCTV camera in the area.

I agree, my neighbours son was assaulted on Friday evening in Epping....at the rear of the council offices....
The police were not informed, what is the point!
How many attacks take place that go unreported .....
In this instance, my neighbours son, was walking in the pitch black, due to the lights going out at midnight!

They recently put signs up which You can see in the picture saying CCTV in operation but there are no cameras there.. There was a attack there New Year's Eve n now this. Why don't they actually put cameras there and leave the lights on when it's dark instead of telling people not to take short cuts!

Erm... The media 'ALWAYS' mention if the accused is Black or Asian yet never state a race when the accused is Caucasian. This I will never understand.
