A lorry driver arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving following a three vehicle pile-up on the A406 has been bailed.

The man in his 50s was arrested at the scene on the North Circular southbound, between Ilford and Barking, on Thursday.

Emergency services, including London Fire Brigade and London Air Ambulance, were called at around 2.30pm to reports of a collision between a HGV and two cars.

Two men suffering multiple injuries were removed from their cars by paramedics and one patient suffering from shock was given oxygen by the fire crew.

They were both taken as a priority to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel by land ambulance and remain in a serious condition, police confirmed today.

Police working for the Serious Collision Unit have launched an investigation into the collision and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The lorry driver has been bailed until late September pending further enquiries.

Anyone with information should contact the investigating officer, detective constable Neil Green on 020 8597 4874.
