The public is being asked to suggest a name a new town square.

People have until Wednesday to lodge their ideas for the square in High Street, Barkingside.

A shortlist will be selected between September 8 and 21, with a public vote to decide the final name.

The winning name will be announced on September 27 at the Barkingside Light Night event.

The square was due to be named after Canadian First World War pilot, Harry Jassby, who served in the RAF in 1917 and was stationed in Hainault.

He died five days before the end of the war aged 22, when his plane was involved in a mid-air collision.

But concerns were raised about the move, with claims the pilot was not widely known.

Redbridge council then announced it would consult the public.
