A woman is fighting for her life after being stabbed in an attack which also left a six-year-old child injured.

Police were called at 3.05pm yesterday to reports of a woman stabbed at a residential property in Hatherley Road.

Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and found a 26-year-old woman suffering from stab wounds to her arm and neck.

The woman was taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

A six-year-old child at the address received treatment at the scene for a minor injury and did not attend hospital.

No arrests have been made.

Detective Chief Iinspector Philip Langworthy, of Waltham Forest CID, said: "We are investigating a serious assault on a young woman.

"The motive remains unclear at this stage but we do not believe this is a random attack.

"People living and working nearby may have seen something that could be of vital importance to investigators.

"I would urge anyone with information to contact Waltham Forest CID on 07785 530 686, 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555-111."
