A woman is fighting for her life after being stabbed in an attack which also left a six-year-old child injured. 

Police were called at 3.05pm yesterday to reports of a woman stabbed at a residential property in Hatherley Road.

Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and found a 26-year-old woman suffering from stab wounds to her arm and neck.

The woman was taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

A six-year-old child at the address received treatment at the scene for a minor injury and did not attend hospital.

No arrests have been made.

Detective Chief Iinspector Philip Langworthy, of Waltham Forest CID, said: "We are investigating a serious assault on a young woman. 

"The motive remains unclear at this stage but we do not believe this is a random attack. 

"People living and working nearby may have seen something that could be of vital importance to investigators.
