A new £665,000 annexe at a children's hospice is due to be opened this week.

Haven House, in High Road, Woodford Green, will unveil the 2,356 sq ft, two-storey building, which will provide two consultation rooms for doctors, a music therapy room and activity space for up to 50 people.

The annexe, described by the hospice as a holistic care centre, was completed in 14 months and designed by Loughton-based Clear Architects.

The hospice secured a £464,000 grant from the Department of Health last year, with an additional £201k of grants and donations going towards the cost.

Haven House was one of 158 hospices who received £60m of funding for improvements from the government.

Haven House chief executive, Mike Palfreman,  said: “We are thrilled with the completed annexe, which allows the charity to expand and to deliver essential services to the children closer to their homes.

“This really is an amazing boost and will enable us to provide vital additional activities and a more comprehensive care programme for the local children and families we support.

“We look forward to throwing open the doors of our wonderful new building.”

Clear Architects director, Melanie Clear, said: “Having been given a brief tour of Haven House by and seen the valuable work they do, I was fully on board with the project from the first minute.

"I saw the potential of the site in transforming the hospice and its fantastic work for the children and families, and I look forward to seeing the building in use for many years to come.”

The new building will be officially opened on Thursday by the Duchess of Gloucester at 2.30pm.

Then as part of the Open House London Festival, anyone interested can have a look at the building from 10am to 4pm on September 20.
