Work has begun on a £100,000 refurbishment of a landmark church.
St Mary's Church, in Overton Drive, Wanstead, is closed until at least the start of December as work on repairing and redecorating the Georgian building is completed.
The church was built in 1791 and is the only Grade I listed structure in Redbridge.
It was last refurbished in 1990 and the money required was raised this year through donations and fundraising events.
Protecting sheets have been placed around the pulpit and the monument to Sir Josiah Child , who owned Wanstead House and was governor of the East India Company.
The walls and ceiling are due to be repainted, the pews repaired and broken flagstones restored.
