A boy from Walthamstow has beaten off hundreds of competitors to make it to the final of a driving competition.

Bret Corcoran-Smith, aged eleven, of Wadham Road, is among forty finalists country-wide competing for the UK's Best Young Driver title for under 17s.

The national final of the 2014 Young Driver Challenge, held on September 13 will test Bret on a series of driving skills including parallel parking, a figure of eight, judgement and steering.

To make the final, the Highams Park School pupil in Hansdworth Avenue had to successfully complete the Goodyear Driving Academy, an interactive simulator test based on the Highway Code.

Bret will compete in the 11 to 13 age category with only two overall winners on the day.

He has beaten off 350 entries to make the penultimate test on the Prodrive circuit in Warwickshire.

Bret said: "I am really happy to have made the final. I have had five Young Driver lessons now and I think they will definitely help me be a safer driver when it comes to taking to the road for real.

"I enjoy any form of driving, kart, cars or computer and I'm really looking forward to the final.

"It would be great to let everyone in my class try out a lesson, which is one of the prizes and the experience of the competition will be very useful for me."

The winner is offered forty pre-and post 17 driving lessons provided by Goodyear, a Young Driver at School session for them and their classmates and £500 off a car insurance premium courtesy of Admiral.
