A section of High Street, Epping, remains closed to traffic today after a man was stabbed in the chest in the early hours of yesterday morning, but it has fully re-opened for pedestrians as police carry out further investigations.

Police said they had searched a property in east London late last night in connection with the attack.

Officers are continuing a forensic examination of the scene after the man, described as a 31-year-old from London, remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

Police were called to the incident shortly after 4.25am yesterday following reports the man had been found collapsed.

Ambulance paramedics arrived at the scene and the man was taken to the Royal London Hospital where he was given surgery.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Werrett said: "The investigation is progressing, we executed a search warrant in East London late last night, and have recovered a motor vehicle we believe is linked to this incident.

"From our initial review of CCTV it would appear that there were a number of witnesses to this incident including taxi and mini cab drivers. We would urge them to come forward to tell us what they saw."

Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to call Essex Police on 101 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
