A car is at the centre of the investigation into the shooting of a man in Chigwell.

Forensic experts have been examining a black Volkswagon parked in the car park in Abridge Road, close to where a 36-year-old man from east London was shot in the shoulder outside Virgin Active Health Club, shortly before 3.50pm yesterday.

The victim left hospital this morning after receiving treatment and there have been no arrests.

Virgin Active Club Manager Carrie Small confirmed that the centre would be shut until further notice.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Werrett said: "I would reiterate that all the information we currently have suggests there is no threat to the general public from this incident."

Essex Police are liaising with the Metropolitan Police and other surrounding police forces.

There have been no arrests.

Anyone with any information is urged to call Loughton CID on 101.
