Second World War fighter planes, military vehicles and classic cars entertained thousands at the weekend at the return of a popular community funday.
North Weald Community Funday Sunday this year followed the theme of remembering D-Day, which took place 70 years ago on June 6 1944.
Crowds were entertained with a fly past from the Battle of Britain Memorial Fight Spitfire and Hurricane, Cold-War Vampires, the airfield’s Hawker Hunter and Jet Provosts as well as a display of an array of static aircrafts.
The airfield, which played a major role in the D-Day landing, also offered an array of family friendly activities including bouncy castles, free fairground rides, an adventure corner and a chance to see and pet farm animals.
Classic cars including Ford Mustangs, MGs and Volkswagon Campers were on show.
District Council Chairman Tony Boyce said: "It was a marvellous event and a true measure of the community spirit that makes our district such a great place.
"I also want to pay a special tribute to the veterans, young and old, who joined us for the day.
"It was a real privilege for me and the Lord Lieutenant to stand and take the salute with them."
