A man travelling in a refuse lorry that overturned on the A406 earlier this morning has died.

Emergency services were called to the North Circular Road by the Cooks Ferry Interchange at 8.35am to reports of an overturned refuse lorry.

The Kier Group vehicle crashed through a barrier wall on the eastbound strip near Hall Lane in Chingford.

Police have confirmed this morning that one man, believed to be a passenger, died at the scene just before 9.30am.

A spokesman for London Ambulance Service (LAS) said: "We were called at 8.39am to reports of a road traffic collision in Hall Lane at the junction with the A406.

"We sent an ambulance crew, London's Air Ambulance and a harazardous response team to treat four men.

"Sadly, despite our efforts, one patient was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor from the air ambulance.

"Three other patients were taken to North Middlesex Hospital with minor injuries."

All four men were travelling in the lorry when it overturned.

Police do not believe there were any other vehicles involved.

All lanes eastbound are closed as police carry out accident investigation work and surrounding routes, including Hall Lane, will remain shut until further notice.

Police say enquiries continue to establish the cause of the accident.

Motorists are being diverted via Meridian Way, Valley Road in Edmonton and Waltham Way in Chingford.
