A foodbank is to be launched to support people in need next week.

A voucher system will be used so each client receives food appropriate to their own situation and any dietary needs or allergies can be accommodated.

The Foodbank, which is a joint initiative by local churches, Lea Valley Church, St Thomas More and St Edward, The Salvation Army and Waltham Abbey Baptist Church, will be run from the outset by volunteers.

The bank, based at the Salvation Army Hall in Sewardstone Street, will be open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, between 4 and 5pm.

Mayor of Waltham Abbey, Ann Mitchell, will launch the food back on Monday.

Anyone interested in volunteering to help administer the scheme can join existing volunteers and the mayor for a sandwich lunch from 12.30pm on Monday.
