Betting giants Paddy Power will find out whether or not they can open another betting shop in Leytonstone, next month.

Waltham Forest Council’s Licensing Committee will discuss plans submitted by the company which now owns 620 High Road.

Residents and councillors have been campaigning against the number of betting shops opening in the borough in recent years.

Recent changes to government legislation mean that councils can now judge bookies’ applications in their own category- rather than having to consider them in the same group as banks and estate agents.

However – the legislation came too late for Councillor Clyde Loakes who claims that significant damage has already been done in Waltham Forest.

In July the Planning Inspectorate overturned two decisions made by the council to refuse Paddy Power permission for two Walthamstow branches.

A petition against the openeing of the latest branch has already been signed by more than 200 people.

The committee will consider plans for the betting shop in October 6 at the Town Hall.
