Police are urging for witnesses to come forward as enquiries continue following a shooting in Chigwell at the weekend.

The 36-year-old man from east London was shot in the shoulder outside Virgin Active Health Club, while a young children's party was being held opposite in Mooro's Restaurant, shortly before 3.50pm on Sunday.

The victim left hospital on Monday after receiving treatment and there have been no arrests.

Forensic officers are continuing to examine a black Volkswagen that has been said to be of interest to enquiries.

Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Colin Norton said: "This is a complex enquiry and we are currently in the process of gathering evidence.

"We’re reviewing CCTV from several CCTV cameras and taking a substantial number of witness statements.

“All the information we currently have suggests there is no threat to the general public from this incident."

Anyone with any information is urged to call Loughton CID on 101.
