A historic pub could be turned into a hostel.

Permission is currently being sought by the new owners of the Lord Rookwood in Cann Hall Road, Leytonstone, to create an 18-bedroom budget accommodation site with an office manager and kitchen facilities.

Documents submitted to the council's planning department request permission for use of the 'upper floors'.

Music lovers and residents were shocked when the owners announced the closure of the pub in January 2013 – never giving a reason for selling up.

The historic pub was known for hosting live music, most notably weekly gigs by the East Side Jazz Club.

The club, which was based at the Lord Rookwood for over a decade, was forced to cancel all shows and search for a new venue.

By April 2013 the freehold for the property was on sale for £850,000.

The pub is a detached property set out over three storeys with a large garden.

Waltham Forest Planning Committee will discuss plans in the coming months.
