A host of primary schools in Epping Forest asked their pupils to dress down in denim on Friday to raise funds for Jeans for Genes.

White Bridge Junior School and Hereward Primary School, both in Loughton, and Buckhurst Hill Community Primary School were just some of the schools taking part in the annual campaign.

Pupils were invited to wear jeans for the day in return for a donation to Jeans for Genes, a charity which helps to fund the care and support of children with genetic disorders.

Buckhurst Hill Community Primary School asked its 389 pupils to donate £1 each and in total they raised £380. The school had sent letters to all parents and carers to inform them about the campaign.

White Bridge Junior School also takes part in Jeans for Genes every year. This year, the school hoped to have raised over £200.

Herward Primary School has been supporting the campaign for the last 10 years and it hosted assemblies on the day to teach its pupils about genetic disorders.

Headteacher Matt Woolard said: “We have had children with genetic disorders attend the school so this is a cause dear to our hearts.

“We hope to have raised £400 for Jeans for Genes.”
