Ongar town council is appealing for volunteers to help clean the streets after discovering an 'alarming' amount of litter in the town.
The council will focus its litter picking event on the southern end of the town in the Greensted ward due to a significant amount of rubbish on the streets.
The pick-up will take place between 10am and 12 noon on Saturday. Volunteers are asked to meet councillors at 9.30am at the old lorry park in Greensted Road.
Chairman of the council's open spaces committee, Cllr Alison Wingfield, said: “The clean-up will show others that we care about the future of our local environment and that we are not prepared to live in an area that is blighted by rubbish.
"Working together like this creates a sense of community.”
