A community clean-up took place at a park this weekend, being attended by Redbridge volunteer police cadets this weekend.

Wanstead’s Neighbourhood Policing Team organised the day on Saturday, to clean-up Wanstead Flats, which police described as a "robbery hotspot”.

Epping Forest Rangers, scouts and local residents also attended to clear the overgrown area of rubbish and cut back hedges and bushes to make the area safer.

An off-duty police officer was found beaten and bitten on the flats earlier this month, and three teenagers were arrested and bailed following enquiries.

Amanda Miller, Redbridge Youth Engagement Officer said, "The cadets were amazing and had to be forced to go home.

“They thoroughly enjoyed the experience and are very excited to take part in further community events."

Conservative Cllr Michelle Dunn of the Wanstead ward attended the event and added her support for the efforts of the police cadets.

She said: “I want to pass my congratulations on to the cadets, they worked really hard and I hope they had an enjoyable day."
