A mother is furious after her call for enforced safety measures at a dangerous junction was dismissed.

Essex Highways responded to Michelle Evans’ request for a crash barrier today stating that there are ‘no current plans to introduce further traffic calming measures’.

The 48-year-old, of Fiddlers Hamlet in Epping was left ‘scared for her family’s lives’ after the third car in 14 months ploughed through her garden wall on September 20.

The accident left Mrs Evans garden wall destroyed, bricks in her porch and an accident preventing bollard over a six foot wall in the back garden.

Essex Highways responded to the request for increased safety measures today.

A spokesman said: “As part of the review of speed limits in Essex, roads in Fiddlers Hamlet were assessed.

“As a result, the speed on a section of Stonards Hill and Coopersale Street was reduced from a 60mph limit to a 40mph in 2012.

“There are currently no plans to revisit the surrounding speed limits or introduce further traffic calming measures.”

The Stewards Green Road, Mount Road and Coopersale Street crossroad also caused the death of Patricia Eustace, 71, in 2008, who was killed as she was struck by a vehicle that had spun out of control after colliding with another car at the junction.

Mrs Evans and her neighbours have been campaigning for a pavement-mounting prevention barrier to be fitted on the kerb and a lowered speed limit for the past several years.

She said: “we have been confronted with the very real possibility that a member of our families could be killed.

“Cars fly over the junction and never slow down, they hit the plastic bollards and smash into my wall.

“We love our house and our street but if suitable measures are not enforced we will have to sell our home.”

"I will be contacting a solicitor for legal advice at this stage, even if we move away, the risk is still here for whoever moves in.

“All I have to say is watch this space because this will not stop and something needs to be done.”
