Hundreds of people have been left ‘stranded’ at Leytonstone Station this morning in scenes resembling a football match, rather than an early morning commute.

Leytonstone and Leyton stations have been closed due to a broken track and overcrowded buses have not been stopping to collect the crowds stranded outside.

Many people have been left stranded on the platforms, unable to leave the station.

Paul Claydon, 35, spent two hours getting to work this morning from his home in Epping.

He said: “It all went wrong at Leytonstone. The staff were telling people to evacuate the station because there were no westbound trains.

“The staff didn’t have a clue. There was pushing and shoving and arguments going on.

“The announcers and the drivers were saying different things. One would say the train was leaving then five minutes later everyone had to get off because it was going back to Epping.

“Liverpool Street was chaos, too.”

Angry commuters have taken to Twitter to describe the ‘carnage’ at both stations.

Oliver Breece said that there had already been injuries.

He Tweeted: “Do not get in the Central line. People fighting, women collapsing. I left my house at 6.50am. Currently in Leytonstone.”

Natasia Evangelou wrote: “The Central line is a joke. Where are our replacement buses? Been stuck in Leytonstone for over an hour.”

Others described the situation as 'chaos' and 'mayhem'.

Dozens more people have hit out at TfL for not updating online services to say that the stations have been closed.

Both police and ambulance services are reported to have been called to Leytonstone Station.

TfL have been asked to comment.
