A vandal who damaged a civilian war memorial erected in honour of Chingford WWII victims, has been fined and given community service.
Kanesu Manivanan, of Chingford Mount Road, caused £50 damage to Chingford Mount's war memorial in Albert Crescent after destroying the flower beds on April 16.
The 34 year-old pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage and using threatening and abusive language towards Zed Ashgar at Thames Magistrates' Court on August 15.
Manivanan was sentenced on Monday to six months unpaid work and given a ten week curfew monitored with an electronic tag.
He was ordered to pay a £25 fine, £50 in compensation, £60 victim surcharge costs and £85 prosecution costs.
The Second World War memorial bearing all 104 names of Chingford residents killed in the Blitz was unveiled to the public in November 2012.
