A new foodbank collection point is being put in Redbridge town hall, to make it even easier for people to help those in need.

The collection point, in the town hall in High Road, Ilford is now open between Monday and Friday, 9am to 5pm.

It is one of a number of Redbridge foodbank collection points across the borough including Tesco in Barkingside and Halifax Bank in Ilford.

Redbridge foodbank is based at Jubilee Church in Granville Road, Ilford, and helps individuals and families in crisis by providing an emergency food service.

Residents are referred by a doctor or social worker and food parcels are designed to provide nutritionally balanced food for three days.

In 2013 and 2014, Redbridge foodbank gave three days emergency food parcels to 3,590 people.

Cllr Wes Streeting, deputy leader of Labour's Redbridge council, said: “I wish foodbanks weren’t necessary, but the level of demand on Redbridge foodbank shows how important this service is.

“The impact of poverty on families’ wellbeing can be devastating and we can all play our part to help.

“I am very pleased we can help by providing a collection point in Redbridge town hall, which will hopefully make it even easier for people to donate essential goods.”
