Barts Health Trust has been named as one of the worst hospitals for patient-experience by a cancer charity.

In a survey conducted by Macmillan, released today, eight London hospitals were in the bottom ten for patient satisfaction in the country.

Criticisms from patients included a lack of information about side effects of treatments and a lack of compassion.

However, Macmillan has suggested that there could be reasons for the trend in the capital.

According to the charity this could be due to a ‘patient mix’ meaning that London hospitals are more likely to treat younger people with rarer cancers.

Staffing levels could also have an impact on care although the charity said such factors play a ‘smaller role’ in overall patient experience.

The trust which is in charge of Whipps Cross Hospital received one of the highest number of responses with 888 patients surveyed.

Others in the bottom ten include Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust and Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.
