Watford Water Polo had a memorable weekend of league action at Basildon Sports Village on Saturday and Sunday as the team secured three wins.

The side scored 68 goals in the process, the highest weekend total in British Water Polo League Division Four so far this season, and a total which exceeds any other team across all divisions in the current campaign.

The club, who conceded only 25 goals, had beaten Cambridge 11-9 but lost out to York 11-8 at Sheffield in early September.

Winning the weekend round of three fixtures was key to securing a top-five finish.

Saturday got off to a strong start when the team took on current league leaders and undefeated Cheltenham Spartans but Watford maintained complete control and won the game 27-8.

On Saturday evening the team beat Southampton in a closer game ending 14-8, whilst Sunday saw the club complete their third victory, beating Basildon 27-9.

Watford’s player of the weekend was goalkeeper Karan Basu, who saved three penalties, one in each game.

The team is now in a comfortable position to chase promotion to Division Three. The play-offs in the BWPL pit the top five teams of one tier, against the three bottom teams in the higher tier for three promotion places.
