Two men have been released on bail following their arrest on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was found by a motorway with serious head injuries.

Police arrested the two, aged 50 and 41, at the scene on the northbound M11 at the approach to junction 7 in Harlow.

The victim was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow for treatment, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

The M11 was closed northbound between junctions 6 at Theydon Garnon and junction 7 while forensic investigations were carried out.

The road reopened the next day just after midnight.

The two men, from Lithuania, were released on bail until February 2.
