Accident and emergency waiting times at a troubled trust which runs hospitals serving Redbridge are the worst in London and still rising, the latest figures show.
It took four or more hours for 16.3 per cent of patients to be seen at Queen’s Hospital in Romford and King George Hospital in Goodmayes.
This figure, for the week ending September 28, is more than triple the government target of five per cent. It had risen substantially from last week’s figure of 10.2 per cent.
The Barking, Havering and Redbridge University NHS Trust (BHRUT) is currently in special measures over its debt, which currently stand at around £40million.
It was recently referred to Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt over concerns about its recovery plan.
The trust says it has taken steps to improve care standards, after previously admitting it had struggled to retain senior A&E staff.
The A&E department at King George has been earmarked for closure, although a date is yet to be set.
The report also shows Barts Health trust, which runs Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone, met the target with 5 per cent waiting four or more hours
