A schoolgirl has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car.

Police and paramedics were called to King's Road in Chingford at just before 4pm yesterday following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian.

The 10-year-old was treated at the scene for minor injuries and taken to Whipps Cross Hospital.

A 52-year-old man was standing outside the parade of shops when it happened.

He said: "I took out a duvet to give to the girl.

"She was sitting on the pavement by the bus stop and was surrounded by people.

"She seemed fine but was a bit scared; I think she maybe had a broken leg.

"I watch them running across the road to catch the bus everyday. It's a big problem here and something needs to be done about it.

Sylvia Lokmanoglu of Paula Hair Design in King's Road, Chingford, heard the impact.

"I was shampooing a woman's hair and then I heard a loud bang.

"I didn't take notice as I couldn't see anything but a customer standing by the window said she was a girl fly into the air.

"Kids are constantly running across the road to catch the bus on the other side.

"Schools need to be told so they can warn pupils to be more careful and use the zebra crossing," she added.

A silver Mercedes stopped at the scene and no arrests have been made.
