Dozens of volunteers gathered with shovels and sweeps this weekend to ‘spruce up’ a train station.

Highams Park Society and Labour prospective parliamentary candidate for Chingford, Bilal Mahmood, worked on the Liverpool Street-bound platform on Saturday morning.

Mr Mahmood said: “I’m always happy to get my hands dirty in cleaning up the local area.

“The garden on the platform is unique. It brightens up people’s commute. That’s why I thought it was important to get some fresh air, and help our local community maintain it.

“I’m particularly thankful to the Highams Park Society for organising this and to the Highams Park Forum for spreading the word.”
