A festival celebrating local talent came to an end this weekend with a number of events.

On Saturday, the sixth Woodford Festival ended with a jazz music by local group the Woodford Whezzards at Waitrose, in High Road, South Woodford.

Also on Saturday, a community safety day run by the fire brigade in co-operation with the Metropolitan Police, St John’s Ambulance, Guide Dogs for the Blind and teams of cadets, at Woodford fire station in Snakes Lane East, Woodford Green.

People were invited to meet the fire fighters and police and see displays and demonstrations about safety, with a bouncy castle, ice cream van and refreshments also available.

A beer festival ran all week in the George Pub, in George Lane, South Woodford, with MP Iain Duncan Smith making an appearance on Friday.

The festival, which ran since October 4, involved more than 100 events in 35 locations.

It initially took place annually, but due to funding issues now runs every two years.

Festival co-ordinator Anny Wortley-Millek, 63, and her husband Ron, have been involved in the running of all six festivals.

She said: "The festival came to a roaring finale on Saturday and Sunday with all events being well-attended.

"It was a busy, fun packed festival with a lot of different events truly showing the wealth of local artistic talent.

"A celebration party in the Woodford Wells Club rounded it all off and everybody danced the night away.

"It is hoped that we will find the necessary funds to run another festival in two years’ time."
