A pub has succeeded in reaching a four-year fundraising target of £30,000.

The milestone target was reached over the weekend after the Old Hall Tavern in Hall Lane, Chingford, transformed itself into a charity auction house with live music and raffle draws.

For the past four years, the award-winning pub has held open mic nights, quiz nights, concerts and even saw customers taking on risks in abseil challenges for Help for Heroes.

Collectively pub landlord Shane Kilcrann, his staff and customers have raised thousands for national and local charities including Woodford Green's Haven House Children's Hospice, The Royal British Legion, Breast Cancer Care, North London Hospice, and Cardiac Arrest in the Young plus a staggering £21,000 for Help for Heroes.

In the last year customers have also donated £1,565 to the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Society after pub regular Geoff Collier recently passed away from the disease.

Friday's event rose over £2,000 for Haven House - the amount needed to pay for a weekend of care for one child, and Saturday's charity night brought in £1,000 for Breast Cancer Care taking the total past the £30,000 mark.

The auction on Friday alone raised £850 with people bidding on various prizes from rounds of golf at the West Essex Golf Club, to tickets to see comedians Lee Evans and John Bishop live.

Shane Kilcrann said:"We've had and continue to have a lot of support so we wanted to give back to the community.

"I know personally of families whose kids have been at the Hospice and Haven House is one of many charities we've supported over the years.

"Thank you to everyone that turned up over the weekend to show their support.

"It is the customers, regulars and locals that make this pub what it is, and without their generous giving, fundraising on this scale would not have been possible."

Over the past four years, donations have been passed on to the chosen charities as they've been raised, and the amount raised in collection boxes from the weekend is still to be verified.
