The owner of the pub where customers were involved in a mass brawl outside has said he should not be held accountable for customer’s behaviour off the premises.

Police were called to reports of 60 people involved in a fight in a car park by The Green Dragon in Waltham Abbey in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A 38-year-old was found in Market Squar with minor injuries, but refused treatment by paramedics, the ambulance service said.

The landlord claims he has CCTV footage showing the victim, who had been ejected from the pub, attacking a pub window - triggering the brawl.

Green Dragon landlord Graeme Kerry added: “We are helping the police with their inquiries and have handed CCTV footage of the incident to them.

“We cannot be held accountable for the actions of people outside our pub.

“The gentleman involved had too much to drink. We removed him and he started attacking our window.

“We have recently hired security and they emptied the pub early at 1am.

“People left other pubs down the road to look at the fight and get involved.”

People in the area who spoke to the Guardian said violence is a regular occurrence in the area at weekends.

No one has been arrested over the latest incident.
