A district council is appealing for volunteers to help with this years annual poppy appeal.

Epping Forest District Council are asking residents to take part in the 2014 'Poppy People' campaign and help to raise money for The Royal British Legion.

Last year’s UK Poppy Appeal currently stands at just over £38 million which is an increase of over £1 million on the 2012 total.

Chairman of Epping Forest District Council Councillor Tony Boyce said: "We in Epping Forest District and the country as a whole owe much to the bravery and dedication of our armed forces, those who are currently serving and those who have gone before.

"Supporting this year’s Poppy Appeal is a small way of showing your appreciation, so please wear your poppy with pride."
