Police have launched an investigation following allegations officers did not breathalyse a driver involved in a collision with a pedestrian.

Jeff Ross, of Newbury Park, was hit by a 4x4 on a pedestrian crossing opposite South Woodford tube station in George Lane on Wednesday evening.

The 55-year-old was crossing the road when he was clipped by the wing mirror of a white Ford Kuga.

He was flown into the air, but avoided serious injury.

Mr Ross, a financial advisor in the City, confronted the female driver, who allegedly said: "I didn't see you, I was going too fast."

Police eventually arrived an hour after the collision, but Mr Ross claimed they did not breathalyse the driver.

A spokeswoman for Redbridge Police said: "We can confirm police were called to a collision on Wednesday, 15 October at approximately 6.30pm between a pedestrian and a vehicle.

"The way that incident was dealt with is now subject of an investigation by the Directorate of Professional Standards Unit at Redbridge and therefore it would be inappropriate for us to comment further at this time, pending the outcome of the investigation."
