A 30-year-old man is in a critical condition following a crash involving a quad bike.

Police were called at about 12.20pm yesterday to reports of a three-vehicle collision in Manor Road, Chigwell.

Officers said the rider of a black Yamaha quad bike travelling towards Woodford Bridge lost control and was first in collision with a white van travelling in the opposite direction and then a black VW people carrier.

The rider, a man in his 30s from Chigwell, was taken by air ambulance to the Royal London Hospital, where his condition has been described as critical.

The female driver of the VW was taken to hospital for shock and minor injuries but was released after treatment. The van driver was not injured.

A section of Manor Road was closed until about 7.15pm while vehicles were recovered and a police investigation was carried out.
